06 / Sustainability
Responsible claims need
A measured approach to material choices, development decisions and program-specific sustainability requirements.
No blanket promises
Sustainability is a set of defined questions—not a marketing adjective.
The relevant objective may concern material inputs, product durability, process choices, packaging, traceability or another buyer priority. Each objective should be stated clearly, evaluated in context and supported by evidence appropriate to the actual textile program.
01
Define the objective
Establish what the buyer is seeking to improve or substantiate before selecting a material direction or claim.
02
Choose relevant measures
Metrics, documentation and comparison points should relate directly to the stated objective and product context.
03
Design for purpose
A fit-for-purpose textile avoids adding features or complexity that do not contribute to the intended application.
04
Consider useful life
Durability and service expectations can be discussed as part of the specification where they are relevant and measurable.
05
Review material options
Buyer-requested material directions are assessed against function, availability, manufacturability and evidence requirements.
06
Reduce avoidable iteration
Clear specifications and early alignment can limit unnecessary sampling, redevelopment and material use.
07
Verify before communicating
Environmental or social claims should be specific to the program and supported before they are used commercially.
